Sorry but this lot has now been sold!

brass instrument repair tools Ferree
Above photo contents.
Top row
: (L to R): Mouthpiece puller but can be used to move some other stuck components with a little improvising. Tool designed to heat joints thus avoiding excess temperature on instrument stress points. Can also be used to remove fixed lead pipes this way (if you're lucky). Also an all round top piece of kit, a complete set of the befamed Ferree's 101 dent ball set + a few extra sundry balls. Dent ball cable. Punch for rounding out small tubing like mouthpiece shanks. Hand tool for burnishing tubing (various). U shaped handy tool for holding the spring steady when installing water key spring.
Second row: adjustable locking device for use in the bench vise to clamp rod based application e.g. dent roller, driver etc. Driver for cable with dent balls to access long tubing and works very wery effectively on crooks. Dent roller that can be used with vice or by hand in various ways. Extremely versatile for all kinds of dent work.
Third row and below: four mandrels sizes (approx 0,430" 0,470", 0,490" 0,550") small, medium, medium large and large. Good for slide work and other long tube work. Hard wood support piece on which to mount bell section for dent work, polishing, buffing etc. Three different cleaning rods for outers and inners. The brush is a Flexihone (use with care) for removing stubborn scale from inside tubes. Not shown here but various other types of useful brushes will be included.
Note that this set of tools is not comprehensive. However, it has proved to be adequate for many projects that I have done over the years. It is a basic set up that with a little improvisation can go a long way after some experience. Needless to say anyone starting out will need a small workbench with a vise and some normal workshop tools such as pliers, hammers, screwdrivers, calipers, soldering gear, oils/grease/polishes, lacquers, rags, dusters and so on. Meanwhile, this kind of stuff is easily obtainable at your local hardware store.

The following item (see images below) in the collection is a trombone slide repair/assembly jig comprising a flat plate of hardened steel 20mm x 60mm (weight 7 kilos) which is absolutely straight and which I had made especially for the purpose. The components for repair or assembly are fixed to the plate with Supermagnets which are as the name suggests super strong. When attached to the plate in the required position the slide assembly will not move at all whilst soldering. Honestly, I have done some remarkable slide jobs with this apparatus which is not difficult to use. In fact I would dare to say that it is common sense when you have acquired some of the know how... and it can have other uses too.
By the way these magnets are also great (and essential) for tracking/tracing dent balls when working in tubes (shanks, crooks etc).
Please look at the photos below to get the full picture..

Also included in the sale are hard copy books (see below): the Ferree's Repair Manual, a Ferree's Tools Supplies and Accessories CATALOG from 2001 for interest (for latest edition you can consult Ferree's on line but not much has changed, except the prices!). Additionally a personal collection of notes on brass instrument repair some of which are very comprehensive and will be forwarded in PDF format to the buyer after sale.
Any literature whether old or new is useful. Essential tips, tricks and 'know how'... and of course the internet gives us so much information. I admit that I have learned a lot from You Tube clips and other videos showing practical examples of brass instrument and repair.

Footnote: we are musicians and it is a small world. If you should buy an instrument from me and you find that it does not meet your expectations, I would always be happy to take it back and refund you (less any costs of course) as long as the horn is in the same condition as when you bought it from me.
